about

After spending a day reeling from the attack on the Pulse nightclub here in Orlando, I decided to funnel my energy into something creative and wrote this song, "Breathe."

At times it feels like the safest thing to do is just stay inside and hide away. We'd like to think that if we wait long enough, all the danger will pass away and we can resume our lives. But those of us living here in Orlando who have been touched by the tragedy know that is not an answer. We have risen up together and are supporting one another.

I performed this song at a benefit concert about a week after the attack, and when several people approached me about it afterwards, I decided it could have a life of its own. My hope is to use some of that interest to raise additional money for the One Orlando Fund.

Spread love and light. Please consider purchasing this track to support the victims and their families.

lyrics

breathe in, breathe out
we’re lucky to be here
sometimes it’s overwhelming and we wanna disappear
so lock your loving self away
and i’ll protect you dear
don’t think about the world out there
i will hold you in my care
and you and i will stay here
where it’s safe and all is fair

just breathe
don't leave
it's hard enough to love in peace
stay safe
stay smart
don't go into the storm
don't start

you never know how bad the winds may be
until you go and you don't come back to me
we take it slow although eventually we have to leave
just breathe

just breathe
don't leave
it's hard enough to love in peace

although when the storm is wild and wide
we crave protection and so we stay inside
when those we adore need our faith, our love, our pride
we cannot hide and so we rise

and breathe
and we finally leave
that place of isolation
thoughts of desolation

it's hard to love but still
though a bitter tasting pill
we will live with passion
seethe with anger
grieve our losses
and love our neighbor
just as long as we can
breathe
